Pumpkin.
Had a great and productive day. Bacon, egg, and cheese from the Mexican joint, Vitamin Water from the bodega in Billyburg. Got the oil changed in the car and a free car wash in Queens. Rode Pumpkin at Blue Mtn. That bike is awesome. Ventana is the best.
Jarritos Sandia (watermelon) soda, beef empanada, banana emanada, and a can of coke from the Ecuadorian deli in Peekskill. No, that's not my book.
Skateboarded to and from Chinatown on my Steadham for a Vietnamese feast at Nha Trang. Saw Sam Sever there. Had the iced coffee for dessert. Yes, I'm still awake. Great riding. Great food. Great day.

Hurricane Bill - Mother Nature Runs Tings
Well, it was epic fun. Kai flew all the way from Berlin to get in 2 mtb rides around NYC. Hurricane Bill chimed in and shaped the weekend for us. 10-15 foot waves at the beaches and blue rooms for the surfers. Storms riding up the coast thrashing most of our good technical trails and Kai got stuck in Detroit Friday night.
Darius and I scooped him up at JFK Saturday at noon and we went straight out to Rocky Point on LI for an xc ride at breakneck speed. 2 29ers. 2 singlespeeds. 1 26er. Kai's first time on a 29er. 18-20 miles of fun, heat, and humidity. 3 Slurpees. A good time had by all.
A successful day mission followed by a visit to the Taj Mahal for an Indian feast and some Kwak!
Sunday we jetted out to LI again for a blistering ride at Glacier Ridge. 2 bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches from the Mexican Joint. 1 Oslo cappuccino. 2 homeopathic muffins. 1 Slurpee. 1 ice cream bar. Kai jumped out at LGA and was on his way home... Y'all come back soon now. Ya hear!

The Germans are Coming....Well, The German
Good news. One of my best riding buddies is coming in for the weekend and it's all set for some hcmtb action. Kai moved back to Germany (Berlin), so I only get to see him once or twice a year now. We used to rock our Ventana La Bruja's all over the tri-state area crushing rock and trail and whatever was in our path. Kai's white ghost was removed from his Berlin pad without permission. My Grinch is up for sale......
Here's an action shot of Kai at Ringwood on his last visit...

R.I.P. Andy Kessler - NYC Skateboard Pioneer
Andy Kessler died one week ago today. I am very depressed about his passing. Last week was tough. I had to ramp up my ride schedule to keep my aggression at bay. I didn't know Andy well. I rode with him a few times. He was tough. Hard. He could have died many times skateboarding through NYC traffic and doing crazy shit. But he didn't. Life is ironic. Andy was stung by a wasp in Montauk and it killed him. Cardiac arrest. I saw an interview with Andy the other day and he was talking about a regular day in his life and how the 5 minutes of skateboarding to a friend's after work was the best 5 minutes of his day. I get that.

Busted By Bike Snob
I guess the Bike Snob caught us in the act last Thursday as 20 of us were riding the new Globe bikes by Specialized all over NYC. I was riding the new Roll single speed road bike and man did it make me feel hip! See: http://bikesnobnyc.blogspot.com/
Hot Hot Heat
I rode the last 7 out of 9 days. Rode myself into a heatstroke yesterday. It was worth it. Rode mountain the last 2 days in the intense heat. Glacier Ridge on LI yesterday on my new Tranny. See: http://ibiscycles.com/mountain/tranny/ Just getting dialed in to that bike and loving it. Carbon is delicious.
